Com quase 100 anos de história, o time rubro-negro, é o maior vencedor do estado. O Athletico conquistou seu primeiro Campeonato Paranaense em 1925, contra o Operário Ferroviário de Ponta Grossa. No século 21, o Rubro-Negro teve seus principais títulos conquistados, se tornando o único clube do futebol paranaense a conquistar títulos internacionais oficiais. Assim, o Rubro-negro é o único clube não-fundador a ter ultrapassado membros fundadores em títulos de abrangência, tanto nacional, quanto internacional.
No ano de seu centenário, o Athletico Paranaense vai para sua décima participação na Copa Sul-Americana, em busca do Tricampeonato. Além disso, disputará o Campeonato Paranaense, o Brasileirão e a Copa do Brasil. Apesar do agito e a quantidade de competições a concorrer, o ano de 2024 teve projeções inesperadas e desalentes para o torcedor athleticano.
O ano de 2023 tinha tudo para ser gigante, só dependia do próprio Athletico e esse foi o grande “x” da questão. O ano teve início com a disputa do estadual, o elenco principal jogou 99% das partidas, que normalmente eram jogadas pelo elenco de aspirantes (sub-23). As partidas foram em gramados cheios de buracos, em vestiário raiz, e nas arquibancadas de concreto.
Devido a confusões no clássico Athletiba de 2022, o rubro-negro enfrentou punições nos dois primeiros jogos do campeonato, isso se deu por decisão do Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (TJD-PR). Como tentativa de reverter a medida de portões fechados, as duas partidas tiveram apenas mulheres e crianças nas arquibancadas. No primeiro jogo, 32 mil mulheres e crianças estiveram reunidas na Arena da Baixada. Uma partida repleta de emoções, 90 minutos cantados ao som de vozes femininas. Um verdadeiro espetáculo, vitória para os movimentos feministas dentro do esporte.
Na noite de 9 de abril, o Paranaense se consagrou mais uma vez Campeão Paranaense, desta vez invicto. Foram 47 pontos em 17 jogos, sendo destes 15 vitórias e apenas 2 empates. O elenco rubro-negro nessa trajetória, teve uma sequência de 20 jogos sem perder, co. 16 vitórias e 4 empates, contando os 2 jogos do Brasileirão 2022, 17 jogos pelo Campeonato Paranaense 2023 e um pela Libertadores 2023.
Na Copa do Brasil, o Athletico não foi muito longe, eliminou o CRB e o Botafogo, porém foi derrotado pelo rival Flamengo nas quartas de final. No jogo de ida no Maracanã, o Furacão saiu na frente, abrindo o placar aos 6 minutos com Agustín Canobbio, mas logo tomou a virada, com gols de Pedro (pênalti) e Bruno Henrique. Na volta, a equipe paranaense torcia pela remontada em casa, mas contratempos atrapalharam.
